Fishing on the Basler Rhein

It has been a long time since I was last fishing on the Basler Rhine. As a young fisherman, this was the water I could reach independently by bicycle and public transport and the patent was also financeable with pocket money. For about 32 years I was no longer fishing on the Rhine.

High time to try again. Also because I hear again and again that beautiful catches are made. The stock of zander, perch and rape should be very good.

Below the Tinguley Museum we start and fish stream upwards. A really nice piece of river. A little stream upwards you no longer feel in the middle of the city and suddenly stands in the green on the river.

Equipped with a small cruising rod and my two-handed rod fly rod, which I have never fished, then go.
The water level looked good, the water slightly clouded and the weather cleared after a hungry day towards evening. Patiently we fish with rubber fish and spinners the backwater and flow edge. Nothing is happening.
Possible that I do not get far enough out with the little rod. But nothing happens to my colleague either.

After a beer break in the beautiful evening atmosphere – you have to enjoy the excursion 🙂 – I tried for the first time with a two-handed fly rod.
In the hope of a rapeseed on the surface, I mounted a pickler that I tied the night before.

The throwing is really in need of getting used to, but from throw to throw it is better. But I wonder if the cord setup is right, because the rod does not charge properly and the throws remain at a moderate distance. A disadvantage here for sure that I had no cotton trousers / boots with me and had to throw from the shore. On front stones, however, the anchor could always be set when throwing.
With regard to the cord structure, however, I still have to ask the pros in the colleagues for advice. Years ago I was not quite correctly advised when buying…

Despite persistent attempts, however, the attempt with the Gurgler was also unsuccessful.

Since it is slowly darkening, we make our way to the bicycled and fish the way back again with rubber foxes. We have the hope until the last that we may still have a tinder on the hook, but today we both remain tailors.

It was always nice and I think I will visit the nearby Rhine more often in the future. On the one hand with spinning rod, but also to practice fishing with the two-handed rod. On the other waters in the region, this is otherwise too large.
